Budapest Dance Festival April 19-29th 2013 from Nemzeti Tancszinhaz on Vimeo.
Passion, rites, raging emotions, mysticism, humour and paying respect – these are just some of the experiences that the audiences at the Budapest Dance Festival between the 19th and the 29th of April 2013 will have the opportunity to savour. All of these will be brought to life in the Main Auditorium of the National Dance Theatre and in the Festival Theatre (MÜPA) through performances by renowned Hungarian and international dance troupes. For as long as we do not experience the meaning of these in our being, these remain mere words. Audiences can experience these through the universal language of dance, which brings the body’s knowledge alive.
The Budapest Dance Festival offers an ample choice of international programmes, including performances by Grupo Corpo from Brazil, Company fabrik Potsdam from Germany and the Czech South Bohemian Ballet. There are also plenty of Hungarian programmes to choose from. The Central Europe Dance Theatre will premiere Horde, while the Hungarian State Folk Ensemble will debut their new show, entitled Song of the Stag and the Budapest premiere of the Szeged Contemporary Dance Company’s Stabat Mater. One of the special performances of this year’s Dance Festival will be the revised version of The Rite of Spring by the Yvette Bozsik Company, celebrating their 20th anniversary this year. The original performance of this piece took place in 1999 and was revised for the 100th anniversary of the 1913 premiere of Le Sacre du printemps. The inspiration of this famous centenary is present throughout the programme of the Budapest Dance Theatre.
Traditionally we celebrate International Dance Day on the 29th of April with a Gala evening dedicated to the Hungarian dance profession, as the Hungarian Dancers’ Association awards its professional prizes in the course of the evening. The Imre Zoltán Award is also awarded at this time. According to our plans, our audience can take part in two special Gala Evenings at the same time on 29th April 2013. We are looking forward to welcoming you at these special programmes.
